MANILA, Philippines — The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued a memorandum on ordering all public telecommunications entities to be prepared for the incoming Typhoon Bising.
Following Memorandum Order No. 05-04-2011 dated April 16, the NTC directed all telecommunications entities to ensure that there are sufficient personnels, standby generators, with extra fuel and tools, and spare equipment in the areas that might be affected by the typhoon.
The NTC also required all repair and service restoration be fast tracked in areas that might be severely affected by the typhoon noting that they must be updated on ongoing restoration activities and timeline for the full restoration of services every six hours.
In addition, the NTC said deployment of ‘Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging Stations’ (free calls and free charging stations) will be set up in areas that will be affected.
The NTC reminded telecommunication entities to coordinate with the Local Government Units and observe strict health protocols to avoid COVID-19 transmission.
On Saturday morning, Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 1 was raised over 14 areas as typhoon Bising continues to rapidly intensify while moving west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea.
