CamSur town doctor succumbs to COVID-19

NAGA CITY — A doctor who works at the health center in Camaligan town in Camarines Sur province and was known for advocating coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination among small communities has died due to the viral illness on Friday afternoon.

Dr. Vicky Renolayan was admitted to the hospital late March after experiencing severe symptoms and later tested positive for COVID-19.

She passed away Friday at 3 p.m. She was 58.

“She was admitted to the hospital on the last week of March after experiencing severe health conditions and tested positive for COVID-19,” Camaligan Vice Mayor Diano Ibardaloza Jr. said in a statement Saturday.

Ibardaloza said Renolyan started working at the municipal health center in 2019.

On March 10, Camaligan launched the simulation exercise on COVID-19 vaccination program which was publicly advocated by Renolyan.

“She was a very active frontliner and COVID warrior who reaches out to the small barangays in our town to teach and discuss to them the health protocols against COVID-19,” he said.

As of April 16, Camarines Sur has a total of 1,749 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic started last year, 297 of which are active. The province also recorded 1,366 recoveries and 87 deaths.
