MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Surigae (international name) slightly gained strength as it approaches the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Friday morning.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the state weather bureau said Surigae remains outside PAR and was located 985 kilometers east of Mindanao.

Surigae intensified a little, now with maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 135 kph, as it continues to move westward at 10 kph.

The storm is expected to enter PAR this Friday morning and will be named “Bising” (local name) once it enters Philippine waters.

Due to the trough of Surigae, cloudy skies with rain showers may be expected in Eastern Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Meanwhile, the rest of Visayas will have marginally cloudy to cloudy weather with chances of isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Further, Pagasa said the Luzon region will experience fair weather, in general, with slightly cloudy to cloudy skies. There are also chances of isolated rain showers on this island due to thunderstorms.
