5 councilors, 6 staff members test positive for COVID-19 in Cauayan, Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY –– Five Cauayan town councilors and six of their staff members have tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

All have no symptoms, said Cauayan Mayor John Rey Tabujara.

The Cauayan Municipal Hall will be closed this week for disinfection, and employees will work from home.

On Tuesday, the town had 127 COVID-19 cases.

Tabujara said the surge in cases occurred after a Cauayan resident, who attended a cockfight, tested positive for COVID-19.

This led to contact tracing and massive testing for the virus.

Two sitios were also locked down to prevent the spread of the virus in Cauayan.

At least 115 families in Sitio Tuod, Barangay Isio, and 70 families in Sitio Mangga of Barangay Guiljungan were affected.

The mayor said contact tracing and testing are ongoing.
