MANILA, Philippines – Senators held an urgent caucus Wednesday to discuss the petitions filed before the Supreme Court seeking to stop the ongoing impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona and reception of evidence against him.

It was Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, who moved for a caucus, before the Senate could proceed with the proper trial.

“I move that the body go into a caucus immediately to resolve these issues before we go into the cross examination proper of the trial,” Sotto said.

Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile then called for the suspension of the trial and directed the senators to go into a caucus.

Roberto Anduiza, president of the Flight Attendants and Stewards Association of the Philippines, is set to return to the witness stand for cross-examination by the defense team.
