Gov says COVID-19 UK variant cases reported in Oriental Mindoro

CITY OF CALAPAN –– Oriental Mindoro Gov. Humerlito Dolor revealed on Tuesday that the province recorded two cases of the United Kingdom variant of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The COVID-19 variant infected a resident of Barangay Camilmil in the provincial capital and another from Anoling village in Pinamalayan town.

In a video message Monday evening, Dolor said the patient from Camilmil is a staff member of a national government agency with an office in Calapan, who frequently travels in and out of the province.

The patient from Anoling is a Returning Overseas Filipino (ROF), he said.

Dolor also confirmed that the Department of Health in Oriental Mindoro had ordered a three-generation tracing of all contacts and mandatory 14-day quarantine even if the contact has a negative result from a recent reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test.

As of April 12, the Provincial Health Office reported a total of 1,936 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started last year. The province has 256 active cases, 1,635 recoveries, and 45 deaths.
