MANILA, Philippines – The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announced on Tuesday that train operations for Light Rail Transit 1 (LRT-1) will be suspended for two weekends, from April 17 to 18, and April 24 to 25.

The LRMC said the temporary shutdown will allow the completion of the remaining maintenance and rehabilitation works that started during the Holy Week.

“The works to be carried out during this period would cover the maintenance of trains, stations, and various systems including the scheduled replacement of overhead catenary wires,” LRMC said in a statement.

The additional days will also accelerate the preparations needed for the commercial use of the new Generation-4 train sets, it added.

The LRMC assured that it will continue to enforce its health and safety protocols, as well as comply with Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases guidelines while doing the maintenance works during this period.

There will be a deployment of public utility buses for the affected commuters during the temporary suspension of operations, the LRMC added.

Meanwhile, there will be no changes in the service schedule of LRT-1 on weekdays. The northbound train will still be from 4:30 a.m. to 9:15 p.m., while southbound train will be from 4:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. – Liezelle Soriano Roy, INQUIRER.net trainee
