Tropical depression off Mindanao may intensify into storm — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The tropical depression east of Mindanao has slightly accelerated while maintaining its strength and may possibly intensify into a tropical storm in the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said Tuesday

Pagasa said the weather disturbance may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Saturday.

The center of the tropical depression was estimated at 1,475 kilometers east of Mindanao and outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 a.m. advisory.

“This tropical cyclone is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm in the next 24 hours,” Pagasa said.

“The domestic name ‘BISING’ will be assigned to this tropical cyclone once inside the PAR,” it added.

The tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of up to 55 kph, moving west-northwest at 20 kph.
