KORONADAL CITY—Koronadal City Mayor Eliordo Ogena has admitted to contracting COVID-19 and is now isolated in an undisclosed hospital.

“It is with sadness that I announce to you that I am positive for COVID-19,” Ogena said Saturday afternoon, April 10, on the city government’s Facebook page.

“But don’t you worry, I am in a stable condition. I need to follow protocols for the safety of my family and co-workers in government that I was always in close contact with,” he added.

Ogena further said that those he had close contact with have been swabbed and are awaiting results of the tests.

But he advised others who had come in close contact with him in the past seven days to submit themselves to health authorities for assessment of symptoms of the virus.

Vice Mayor Peter Miguel is currently acting mayor while Ogena is in isolation.

“This clearly shows that no matter how extra careful one can be, infection can strike anytime,” Ogena said.

Prior to being placed in isolation, Ogena directed City Health Officer Edito Vego to disinfect the five-story city hall building and its environs.
