BACOLOD CITY – The surge in COVID-19 cases in Ilog town that originated from a two-day cockfighting derby has caused the lockdown of 1,349 households.
Dr. Bien Eli Nillos, Ilog Municipal Health Officer, said 1,095 households were locked down in Barangay Galicia, which has seven COVID-19 cases on Thursday, April 8.
On Sunday, 254 households were also locked down in Barangay Consuelo which has eight COVID-19 cases.
Nillos said contact tracing and taking of swab tests are ongoing in Ilog which has 36 active COVID-19 cases.
Nillos also said the COVID-19 transmissions came from those who attended a cockfighting derby in Barangay Andulauan, Ilog, on March 20.
“They were super spreaders,” he said.
Many people from other towns and cities, including Bacolod City, attended the Andulauan derby, according to Nillos.
