Batangas logs 27 COVID-19 deaths in 7 days
LUCENA CITY –– Amid the continuous spike in coronavirus cases in Batangas, provincial health authorities on Wednesday recorded its 27th fatality this month.
Four more COVID-19 patients in Lipa City and the towns of Padre Garcia, Rosario, and San Juan succumbed to the highly contagious illness, the Provincial Health Office reported on April 7.
The latest data showed that 144 patients have died due to the illness since January. At least 27 of them died from April 1 to 7. Last year, the province recorded 364 COVID-19 deaths.
The COVID-19 death toll in the province is now at 508. Batangas City topped the list, with 93, followed by Lipa City with 90.
Batangas, still under the general community quarantine (GCQ) status, logged 17,339 new COVID-19 cases since March last year, with an addition of 234 new virus carriers on April 7. At least 13,997 of them have recovered.
The province recorded 1,439 new cases within the first week of the month, resulting in the rise of active virus carriers to 2,834 as of April 7 from only 2,110 seven days prior.
Article continues after this advertisementLipa City still has the highest active cases with 612, followed by Batangas City with 292.
The province still has 1,590 active “suspects” cases and 50 “probable” ones.
