Former Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez tests positive for COVID-19

Ex-Speaker Alvarez joining opposition? That would be difficult, Robredo says

MANILA, Philippines — Former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), his daughter disclosed Thursday.

Paola Alvarez said the former speaker is currently in Davao Del Norte and is recovering at home.

“He did test positive but he is not in any serious health condition,” the former Speaker’s daughter told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

The Speaker’s daughter also belied rumors that her father was intubated due to the disease.

“No he is not or was intubated,” Paola said.

Several other lawmakers in the House earlier disclosed that they also tested positive for COVID-19 such as Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, Negros Oriental Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong, and Abra Rep. Joseph Bernos, among others.
