MANILA, Philippines — The number of deaths in the country caused by COVID-19 surpassed the 14,000-mark after the Department of Health (DOH) logged 242 new fatalities on Wednesday.
This brought the COVID-19 death toll to 14,059, according to the DOH’s daily case bulletin.
The DOH also logged 6,414 new infections, bringing the total of active cases to 158,701.
One hundred and sixty-three more people were able to bounce back from the disease, which increased the recoveries to 656,404.
All in all, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is 819,164.
DOH said the relatively lower number of reported infections on Wednesday is due to the low number of samples received by laboratories on April 5.
It added that 10 duplicates, seven of which are recoveries, were removed from the total case count.
Moreover, 133 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation, DOH said.
Five labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-10 document repository system on April 6, DOH added.
