Pagasa: Rainy in parts of Mindanao due to LPA

/ 07:56 AM April 07, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Rains are expected in parts of Mindanao from Wednesday to Friday due to a low-pressure area (LPA) off Surigao del Sur, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA was last spotted 790 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

“Base sa ating analysis, magiging mabagal ang pagkilos ng LPA sa susunod na tatlong araw, pakanluran o westward. Ibig sabihin mula ngayon hanggang Friday, possible ang mga pag-ulan sa silangang bahagi ng Mindanao, sa Caraga, and Davao region, gayundin sa Soccsksargen, and parts of Bangsamoro. Ito po ay dahil sa trough or outer portion ng low pressure area,” Estareja said.

(Based on our analysis, the LPA will slowly move west in the next three days. This means that from today until Friday, rains are possible in the eastern section of Mindanao, in the Caraga, Davao and Soccsksargen regions, and parts of Bangsamoro region. This is because of the trough or outer portion of the LPA.)

Luzon, Visayas forecast

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the northeasterly windflow.

Looming LPA

Estareja said another LPA is expected to develop outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) between Wednesday and Sunday.

He said that the LPA may enter PAR from east of Mindanao and may move slightly upward until it reaches Eastern Visayas.

The possible LPA, however, is less likely to develop into a storm, said Estareja.
