Northeasterly winds to bring rains over eastern PH

/ 07:27 PM April 04, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — The eastern side of the country may experience light rains due to the northeasterly winds, but state meteorologists said that the hot weather will persist in other areas as no weather disturbance has been detected.

Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday afternoon said warm and humid conditions will continue for the coming week, although certain parts of the Visayas and Mindanao may see isolated thunderstorms.

Pagasa also mentioned that a low-pressure area (LPA) has formed on the northeastern boundary of the Philippine area of responsibility, although it is not expected to intensify as a tropical depression or affect the country’s weather systems.

Still, the weather bureau said it will continue to monitor the movements and developments of the LPA.

For Monday, the weather will still be warm with Metro Manila seeing temperatures of 22 to 34 degrees Celsius — slightly lower due to the absence of the easterlies.

The rest of Luzon will also experience lower temperatures with 24 to 32 degrees in Laoag and Legazpi, 21 to 34 degrees in Tuguegarao, 15 to 24 degrees in Baguio, 21 to 30 degrees in Tagaytay, and 25 to 30 degrees in Puerto Princesa.

Temperatures in cities of Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban will be between 25 to 32 degrees Celsius, while for Mindanao, it will be 24 to 34 degrees in Zamboanga and Davao, and 24 to 32 degrees for Cagayan de Oro.

Pagasa reminds the public to stay hydrated amid the hot weather and stay indoors to avoid heat stress and heat fatigue.  It also urges people to be ready for possible isolated rain later in the afternoon and evening.

Sea conditions over the whole eastern waters of the country, along with Luzon’s northern and western seaboards will be moderate due to the LPA and the northeasterly winds.
