Batangas records 13 more fatalities of COVID-19

LUCENA CITY — Batangas province recorded 13 fatalities from coronavirus disease amid the continuous surge of more virus carriers in the past three days or beginning Holy Wednesday until Good Friday, authorities said.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO), on its March 31 to April 2 bulletins, reported the deaths of COVID-19 patients in the towns of Mataas na Kahoy (3), Nasugbo (2), Taysan (2), Tanauan City (2), and one each in Padre Garcia, Calatagan, Rosario and Lipa City. Reports did not provide added details on the fatalities.

The latest data on April 2 showed that 120 patients died due to the illness since the start of 2021. Last year, the province recorded 364 COVID-19 deaths. The COVID-19 death toll in the province is now at 484.

The PHO also reported the rise of COVID-19 cases from 15,537 March 30 record to 16,102 tally on April 2 or 565 new cases during the period.

On April 2, the number of COVID-19 patients in the province rose to 2,240 from just 1,930 on March 30. Lipa City still has the highest active cases with 483, followed by provincial capital Batangas City with 210.

As of April 2, Batangas, still under the general community quarantine (GCQ) status, had 16,102 COVID-19 patients since the pandemic was declared in March last year. At least 13,378 of them have recovered.

Batangas City has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the province with 2,839, followed by Lipa City, 2,209, and Tanauan City, 1,620.
