MANILA, Philippines — About a third of 152 hospitals in the National Capital Region is now under “critical level” as of March 30, data from the Department of Health showed.
Based on the same DOH data, 50 of 152 hospitals in NCR were placed under critical status in terms of bed capacity allotted for COVID-19 patients while 25 were listed under the high-risk status.
The figure for hospitals classified as critical and high-risk increased from the previous 45 and 23, respectively, as of March 28

Meanwhile, around 78.61 percent or 631 of 804 total Intensive Care Unite (ICU) beds solely for COVID-19 patients in Metro Manila hospitals are already in use, according to the DOH data.
The DOH data further indicated that as of the same date, 69.44 percent or 3,143 of 4,526 isolation beds, and 60.84 percent or 2,180 of 3,439 ward beds in NCR are likewise occupied.
Overall, it noted that bed occupancy rate for the whole NCR reached 66 percent, with 5,144 of the total 3,583 beds in use.
DOH classifies occupancy levels for COVID-19 beds in health centers as either critical, high risk, moderate, and safe.
Under the critical level, hospitals have already reached more than 85 percent of their bed occupancy for COVID-19 patients.
Hospitals are classified as high risk if 70 percent but not more than 85 percent of its COVID-19 beds are occupied, while those with a COVID-19 bed capacity of 60 to 70 percent rate are classified as moderate.
Hospitals fall under the safe level if their bed utilization rate is less than 60 percent.

The DOH on Thursday recorded 8,920 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total active coronavirus cases in the country to 138,948.
Of the tally, 603,948 patients survived while 13,303 succumbed to the respiratory illness caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
The country’s total COVID-19 caseload is now at 756,199.
On Monday, the health department reported another all-time high single-day tally of 10,016 new infections in the country.
