Blast causes minor damage on unfinished bridge connecting Basilan villages
ZAMBOANGA CITY—An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at dawn on Wednesday (March 31) under a bridge under construction and designed to connect the village of Candiis and Pamatsaken in Sumisip town, Basilan province.
Col. Domingo Gobway, commander of the Joint Task Force Basilan, said minor damage was found on the side of the unfinished bridge after the blast but no casualty was reported among civilians in the area.
He said that a certain engineer Rodjim Arai, owner of the construction company building the bridge, earlier received an extortion letter from Abu Sayyaf Group, signed by a certain Pasil Bayali, which Arai ignored.
