30 Leyte jail inmates infected with COVID-19
TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 30 inmates of the Leyte Sub-Provincial Jail have been infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Jelyn Malibago, information officer of the Department of Health (DOH) in Eastern Visayas, said a team from their office went to the jail facility on Friday, March 31, to check the situation.
She said they had yet to determine when and how the infection began.
The facility has more than 400 inmates.
As of Wednesday, the region has 16,587 COVID-19 cases, 329 of them active. It has 16,007 recoveries and 251 deaths.
Meanwhile, the municipal government of Burauen in Leyte announced that its mayor, Juanito Renomeron, has been tested positive for COVID-19.
