PH breaks record for new COVID-19 cases again with 10,016 infections

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s new COVID-19 cases for Monday breached the 10,000-mark for the first time ever, bringing the number of active infections to 115,495.

The COVID-19 bulletin from the Department of Health (DOH) showed there were 10,016 new infections on Monday, setting a new high for single-day increases since the pandemic arrived in the Philippines.

Previously, the highest single-day increase was at 9,838, recorded last Friday.

The total number of cases is 731,894, with 602,213 of them listed as recoveries, with 78 patients officially recovering on Monday. The death toll, on the other hand, has risen to 13,186, with 16 new fatalities.

Although 95.9 percent of the patients had mild symptoms, 2.4 percent were asymptomatic. At least 0.7 percent of the patients have serious symptoms, and another 0.7 percent of patients are still in a life-threatening condition.

DOH said that 14 duplicate entries were removed from the total case count, of which eight are recoveries.  Also, 11 other cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after further validation.

Three laboratories were not able to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) on Sunday, despite the already high number of cases.
