MANILA, Philippines — A heated argument reportedly prompted a police officer to shoot and kill a 19-year-old teen in Calamba City, Laguna on Sunday.

Police identified the victim as Leovil Brian Pelletero, who was allegedly shot by Cpl. Ian Javier Medel along Acacia Street, Ceris 1 Village in Barangay Canlubang at 2:25 a.m.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Villamor, chief of Calamba City police, said the incident happened after a “heated argument” erupted between the two.

According to police, they received a call from a security guard informing them that he heard the sound of a firearm and saw the victim “in prone position lying on the ground and had a gunshot wound on his body while the suspect [is] holding a long firearm.”

Villamor said the victim was rushed to the Global Medical Center of Canlubang for medical treatment but later died.

The suspect, meanwhile, surrendered to authorities and is now in the custody of the police.
