Suspected NPA rebels gun down retired soldier in Masbate

LEGAZPI CITY –– A retired soldier was shot and killed on Sunday afternoon, March 28, by alleged members of New People’s Army (NPA) in a village in Milagros town in Masbate province, a police report said Monday.

Benhur Almodal, 64, a resident of Barangay Poblacion East, was on his way home when he was attacked, according to Police Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson.

Almodal was on board his motorcycle negotiating a road around 5:30 p.m. in Sitio (sub-village) Tubod in Barangay Jamorawon when suspected NPA rebels fired upon him, the report said.

Almodal suffered multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. The attackers fled.

The police are investigating the case.
