PNP sets up 1,106 quarantine control points to enforce ECQ

MANILA, Philippines — Some 1,106 quarantine control points  (QCPs) were set up across Metro Manila, Regions 3 and 4A to enforce the week-long enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Joint Task Force (JTF) COVID Shield said Sunday.

In an online press briefing, JTF COVID Shield Commander Lt. Gen. Cesar Hawthorne Binag said 9,356 police personnel will be deployed in all of these checkpoints.

Some 929 checkpoints were set up in Metro Manila alone to be manned by 2,297 personnel.

Meanwhile, 162 checkpoints were set up in Region 3 with 982 personnel deployed, while 15 checkpoints were set up in Region 4A with 498 personnel deployed.

Binag explained the QCPs will ensure compliance to ECQ guidelines where only travel for essential purposes is allowed.

“Magsisimula ito mamayang ala sais ng hapon, nakapreposition na sila. Pero ang implementasyon nito ay magsisimula ng 12:01 mamayang madaling araw,” Binag said.

(The personnel must be prepositioned in their assignments starting 6 p.m. tonight. But the implementation will start at 12:01 a.m.)

Starting March 29 to April 4, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal will be under the strictest quarantine measure or ECQ.

During this week-long ECQ, there will be a unified curfew in the aforementioned areas from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
