Malls announce operating hours during week-long ECQ in Greater Manila area

MANILA, Philippines — The management of various shopping malls in the country have announced their adjusted operating hours in Metro Manila and four other provinces during the week-long enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

The government placed Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite and Laguna under ECQ starting March 29 until April 4 due to the surge in new COVID-19 cases.

SM Supermalls said only essential stores like supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, hardware stores and restaurants that offer takeout and delivery will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It also offered free parking to all customers during the ECQ implementation.

Essential stores in Robinsons Malls will also remain open, but with an adjusted operating hours. Its supermarkets will operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. while other stores will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“During this period, we will offer FREE PARKING (excluding overnight parking),” it said in a Facebook post.

Shangri-La Plaza said its essential stores will remain open between 11 a.m. to 5 p.m during the week-long ECQ except on April 1 (Maundy Thursday) and April 2 (Good Friday.)

Ayala Malls, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls and Shangri-La Plaza have also separately announced the only essential stores will remain open during the week-long ECQ. It advised mall goers to tune in their Facebook pages for further announcements on operating hours.

Starting Monday until April 4, a curfew from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. will be implemented in Metro Manila and the four provinces under ECQ.
