ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao –– Two men in Banaue town, Ifugao province died after a landslide buried their house on Sunday, authorities said. Heavy rains triggered the landslide.
The bodies of Ernesto Ceraos and Emiliano Lupais from Barangay Kinakin were recovered around 3 a.m. on Monday.
“They were sleeping when their house was destroyed by the landslide, said Cpl. Paul Mar Magastino, Banaue police investigator, in a phone interview. “They were buried under the rubble of wood,” he added.
Magastino said the Kinakin section of the Banaue-Mayoyao border remained closed to give way to clearing operations.
On Friday, a retaining wall of the Kinakin Elementary School, also in Banaue, collapsed after incessant rains, caused the car of a principal in a nearby high school to fall into a 100-foot ravine.
