Pepito to bring heavy to torrential rains in some Luzon, Visayas areas

MANILA, Philippines — Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Manyi) is expected to bring heavy to torrential rainfall to some areas in Luzon and Visayas from Saturday evening to Monday evening, the state weather bureau said.

In its 8 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) said that “[f]orecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas.”

Saturday night (November 16) to Sunday evening (November 17)

Intense to torrential rainfall (>200 millimeters)

These areas may experience widespread incidents of severe flooding and landslides:

Heavy to intense rainfall (100-200 mm)

Landslides and numerous flooding events are possible

Moderate to heavy (50-100 mm)

Localized flooding and landslides are possible

Sunday evening (November 17) to Monday evening (November 18)

Pagasa in its 8 p.m. weather bulletin said that Pepito was about to make a landfall along the eastern coast of Catanduanes. It was last located over the coastal waters of Gigmoto, Catanduanes, moving northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour (km/h).

It was still packing a maximum wind speed of 195 km/h and gustiness of up to 240 km/h.
