Suspected rebel wanted for murder killed in shootout with cops in Camarines Sur

LEGAZPI CITY — An alleged official of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a shootout with police who tried to arrest him in Balatan town in Camarines Sur province on Saturday night, March 20.

Camarines Sur police said in a report Sunday that Carlito Perit, a commanding officer of a rebel platoon operating in Balatan town, resisted arrest and engaged in armed confrontation with the police officers who were serving him his arrest warrants in Barangay (village) Laganac at around 7:35 p.m.

He was taken to a hospital but died along the way.

Perit was facing charges for murder, frustrated murder, and direct assault with attempted murder, the report said.

Police recovered seven fired cartridge cases for 5.56mm., a caliber .45 pistol and several bullets.
