14 barangays in Manila to be put on 4-day lockdown due to COVID-19 surge

MANILA, Philippines — At least 14 barangays in the City of Manila will be placed under a four-day lockdown amid rising COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR), Mayor Isko Moreno announced on Friday.

The lockdown would start on Monday, March 22, 12:01 a.m. and end on Thursday, March 25, 11:59 p.m., the mayor said.

The barangays that will be on lockdown are the following:

256
262
297
350

In Barangay 353, the whole Kusang Loob Street in Sta. Cruz, Manila would be placed on a lockdown, while the whole NYK Fil-Ship Management Building in Barangay 658 would be placed on a clustering lockdown, Moreno said.

“Ako po ay may pinirmahang dalawang executive order na patungkol sa lockdown, karagdagang mga barangay na mala-lockdown sa darating na mga araw,” Moreno announced in his live broadcast on Facebook.

(I have signed two executive orders regarding lockdown, announcing additional barangays that will be locked down in the coming days.)

Moreno also said that the city registered 356 new cases on Friday, bringing the city’s active case count to 2,155 — which could result in the city refusing to admit asymptomatic infected patients to quarantine facilities.

Metro Manila is experiencing a new COVID-19 surge, which health experts attributed to the spread of new variants of concern.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that all 17 mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR) have agreed to impose a 10:00 p.m.-5:00 a.m. curfew starting last Monday.

Meanwhile, the National Task Force against COVID-19 suspended travel into the country except for returning overseas Filipino workers.
