Suspect in Maguindanao massacre commits suicide—police

MANILA, Philippines—One of the accused in the Maguindanao massacre case, who has turned state witness, committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of the Quezon City Jail Annex located inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig on Monday afternoon, police said.

INQUIRER.net learned about the alleged suicide from an information provided by the police in Taguig. The victim was identified as Police Officer 2 Hernanie Decipulo of the 1508th Regional Mobile Group.

Asked for comment, Nena Santos, lawyer for Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu, whose wife was among the victims in the infamous massacre, said an investigation should be conducted.

“We have to make sure if it was really a suicide,” she said over the phone, adding that Decipulo is one of the government’s state witness.
