The Quezon City government beefed up its disaster response capability with 67 emergency vehicles released to different barangays (village) on Monday.

Among the initial recipients of the brand-new Foton Tornado 2 vehicles were the barangays in Districts I and II.

In ceremonies held at city hall, administrator Victor Endriga said about P142 million was allotted to buy a total of 147 vehicles, each costing P967,000, including a basic set of rescue equipment per vehicle.

Mayor Herbert Bautista said each of the city’s 142 barangays will receive a vehicle equipped with a first-aid kit, a chainsaw, steel-toed rainboots, reflectorized raincoats, life vests, safety helmets fitted with search lights, heavy-duty flashlights, sirens and blinkers.

The other barangays in District III and IV are scheduled to receive the next batch of 80 vehicles on Monday next week. At least five units will be used as coordinating vehicles in each district.
