10 more succumb to COVID-19 in Cavite; death toll hits 595

LUCENA CITY –– At least 10 more coronavirus (COVID-19) patients died in Cavite as 289 new virus carriers were recorded in the province on March 16, health authorities reported.

In a report by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on Tuesday posted at 2 p.m., the COVID-19 death toll in the province jumped to 595, an increase of 10 deaths from the 585 tally on March 15. On March 1, the recorded fatalities were only 571.

Cavite, which is under the modified general community quarantine, has logged 22,555 cases since March last year, with 19,781 recoveries.

On March 1, the total number of cases was only 20,803, indicating 1,752 new virus carriers during the past two weeks.

Bacoor City has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 3,943, followed by Dasmariَñas City, with 3,755.

The province still has 2,179 active virus carriers as of March 16.

With the rising number of cases, the police have intensified their operations against COVID-19 safety protocol violators.

On March 17, Colonel Marlon Santos, Cavite police chief, reported that they accosted 341 for not wearing face masks or ignoring the curfew.

On March 16, police also caught 439 violators. The violators paid fines or rendered community service in their respective municipalities, the police said.
