ILOILO CITY–Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday (March 16) raised concern over a surge in COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila and what she said was the uncertainty of vaccine deliveries.

She said while the vaccination program has been rolled out, it was not sure when the next supply of vaccines would be delivered.

“The scarcity of vaccines is there,” she told reporters at the sidelines of her visit to the city’s molecular lab which got P5.5 million in PPEs and test kits from the Vice President’s office in 2020.

She said vaccine availability was urgent in light of the surge in cases in many areas.

She cited a projection by OCTA Research, a group of experts that tracks COVID-19 cases nationwide, that cases could reach 8,000 per day by the end of March and up to 18,000 a day by April.

“The vaccine is not our only chance but a major factor in changing the trajectory,” she said.

She cited the experience of other countries, including the United States, in rolling out vaccination programs and changing the trajectory of cases.

Robredo also visited other towns in Iloilo province to check on projects and programs that her office had helped finance.
