MANILA, Philippines — The Manila City government will place six barangays under a four-day lockdown, starting Wednesday, March 17, to Saturday, March 20, to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
According to an advisory from the Manila Public Information Office on Monday, the following barangays will be placed under lockdown starting 12:01 a.m. of Wednesday until 11:59 p.m. of Saturday.
Barangay 185 Zone 16 (Tondo 2)
Barangay 374 Zone 38 (Sta. Cruz)
Barangay 521 Zone 52 (Sampaloc)
Barangay 628 Zone 63 (Sta. Mesa)
Barangay 675 Zone 74 (Paco)
Barangay 847 Zone 92 (Pandacan)
Executive Order No. 07 issued by Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso declares the said barangays as “critical zones” which shall observe “ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) protocols.”
During the period, all residents of the said barangays shall be strictly confined to their residences and are prohibited from going out of their houses, except for the following:
- Health workers residing in the barangays, such as doctors, nurses, hospital and clinic aides, and laboratory and dialysis technicians.
- Private individuals having a medical emergency
- Officers and members of the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard and government workers rendering emergency frontline services, border control, and other critical services
- Service workers and employees working in pharmacies, drug stores, and funeral home establishments
- Service workers sand employees of public utility companies such as emergency companies, cable, internet and other telecommunication companies, water companies, sanitation companies, and critical transport facilities including port operation
- Service workers and employees of establishments providing daily essential services, including delivery of essential goods cargoes, food delivery services, banking and money transfer services
- Officers of the barangays, such as chairpersons, barangay secretaries, barangay treasurers, kagawads, and executive officers
- Media workers duly accredited by the Presidential Communications Operation Office and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases
Meanwhile, non-residents may be allowed to pass through the concerned barangays provided that they are authorized persons outside of residence, according to the executive order.
“Performance of essential services within the listed barangays by non-residents of the said barangays such as delivery of food as well as maintenance and repair of electric, telecommunications, water, sanitation, and transport facilities may be allowed,” the document read.
“All other commercial, industrial, retail, institutional, and other activities not mentioned in above exemptions conducted within the said barangays shall be suspended within the specified period of ECQ,” it added.
Moreno also ordered station commanders of police stations covering the said barangays to deploy personnel in strategic locations and areas necessary for the effective implementation of the ECQ.
