2 Manila barangays, 2 hotels to be placed under lockdown
MANILA, Philippines — Two barangays and two hotels in Manila City will be put under lockdown for four days due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the nation’s capital.
In his address on Tuesday, Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno said the following barangays and hotels will be locked down starting March 11, 12:01 a.m. until March 14, 11:59 p.m.:
• Brgy. 351 in San Lazaro, Tayuman
• Brgy. 725 in Malate
• portion of Brgy. 699 (Malate Bayview Mansion and Hop Inn Hotel)
These areas were tagged as areas of concern since they have more than 10 cases of COVID-19 in their localities, Moreno said. The lockdown was put in place under Executive Order No. 06.
Moreno said Barangay 351 has 12 active cases and Barangay 725 has 14 active cases.
Meanwhile, Malate Bayview Mansion has 14 confirmed cases while Hop Inn Hotel has three detected cases.
“May ilang barangay tayo na concerned areas natin dahil sa paglago ng COVID-19 infection sa kanilang komunidad at building,” he said.
(We have some barangays that are areas of concern due to the COVID-19 infection surge in their community and building.)
“Lahat ng barangay na may 10 pataas na infection ay isasara natin pansamantala ‘yung kanilang buong barangay o kanilang buong building, or what we call lockdown,” Moreno added.
(All barangays with 10 or more infections will be temporarily closed… their entire barangay or their entire building, or what we call lockdown.)
Under the EO, residents will be restricted to their homes and are not allowed to go outside.
Only Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR) will be allowed to leave their homes, Moreno said.
These include:
• health workers
• military personnel
• service workers (pharmacies, drug stores, and funeral homes)
• utility workers (energy, cable, internet, telecommunication companies, water, sanitation, and critical transport facilities including port operation)
• essential workers (goods delivery, food delivery, banking and money services)
• barangay officials (Chairpersons, Barangay Secretary, Barangay Treasurers, Kagawads, and Executive Officers),
• media practitioners accredited by the Presidential Communications Operations Office and the Inter-Agency Task Force.
As of writing, about 154 new active cases were recorded by the Manila Health Department (MHD), bringing the total number of active cases in the city to 988.
Meanwhile, 74 new recoveries and 2 new deaths were tallied by the MHD, bringing the total number of recoveries and deaths at 27,639 and 817, respectively.
