MANILA, Philippines — The Bohol tourism industry is far from recovering, according to Gov. Arthur Yap. Bohol, one of the country’s top destinations, recently reopened to visitors, but Yap said the number of tourists had yet to return to prepandemic levels.

“As of now, the visitors to resorts in Bohol are local residents. We’re the only customers,” Yap told an online briefing.

He said they received 1,000 to 1,500 visitors a month compared to around 30,000 before the pandemic.

He believes Bohol tourism’s recovery will depend on the COVID-19 vaccination drive.

“If the country’s vaccination program would be rolled out properly and we are able to vaccinate 70 to 80 million people, I think we have a fighting chance to return to normalcy in terms of tourism, business investments,” he said.
