OLONGAPO CITY—A woman with cancer, one of the underlying conditions that make COVID-19 deadlier, has tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes the disease, on Monday (March 8), raising the total number of cases in the city to 1,070 since 2020.
Mayor Rolen Paulino said the 45-year-old woman remained confined in a hospital where she had been admitted since last January after being diagnosed with endometrial cancer.
The woman had been regularly tested for coronavirus due to her condition and had always tested negative for SARS Cov2.
But on March 6, she was tested again for the virus and results showed she had been infected.
It was not immediately known how the patient got the virus.
As of Monday, the city reported a total of 1,070 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic broke out in 2020. Nine are active cases while 1,014 are recoveries and 47 are deaths.
