3 more people die of COVID-19 in Nueva Vizcaya, raise death toll to 35

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—Three people had been added to Nueva Vizcaya’s list of COVID-19 fatalities, according to officials on Tuesday (March 9).

The latest deaths raised to 35 the province’s COVID-19 death toll.

Records from the Nueva Vizcaya provincial health office showed that the latest who died of COVID-19 were a 16-year-old boy from Quezon town, a 67-year-old woman from Bambang town and a 62-year-old man from Villaverde town.

The province has recorded 775 recoveries from the disease with 831 confirmed cases and 22 active cases as of Tuesday.

Nueva Vizcaya Gov. Carlos Padilla has urged medical workers who are on the frontlines to get injected with CoronaVac, the coronavirus vaccine donated by China and made by Chinese firm Sinovac, instead of waiting for other brands. The donated CoronaVac doses were meant for health workers.

“We hope that this will go smoothly and effectively. This is a challenge and I will assure you that there is nothing to lose, everything to gain in supporting this program,” he said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

Unqualified for the vaccine for being a septuagenarian, Padilla said he was willing to get injected with the AstraZeneca vaccine that will arrive soon.

At Dupax District Hospital in Dupax del Sur town, also in Nueva Vizcaya, the vaccine rollout raised hopes that COVID-19 would be stopped, said Dr. Edward Gines, hospital chief.
