MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Mindanao and outside the Philippine area of responsibility has a minimal chance of developing into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.
Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin dela Cruz , however, said the LPA, last spotted 1,695 kilometers east of Mindanao, may still bring rains to parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on Wednesday and Thursday.
“Sa ating analysis, nananatiling mababa ang tsansa na mabuo ito o magprogress pa into tropical depression, although pinaghahanda natin ang ating mga kababayan especially sa Visayas, Mindanao at ilang bahagi ng Southern Luzon dahil nakikita natin na malaki ang tsansa na magpaulan ito o magdala ng pag-ulan sa mga nabanggit nating lugar pagdating ng Wednesday at Thursday this week,” dela Cruz said.
(Based on our analysis, there is a low chance that this LPA may develop into a tropical depression, although we are advising our countrymen especially those in Visayas, Mindanao and other parts of Southern Luzon to prepare for possible rains on Wednesday and Thursday this week.)
Based on Pagasa’s forecast, Batanes and Babuyan Islands will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan”.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies, or wam winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, and localized thunderstorms.
