2 more COVID-19 patients die in Quezon; total death toll now 263

LUCENA CITY — Two more COVID-19 patients from Tiaong and Gumaca towns in Quezon have died, bringing the death toll in the province to 263, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) disclosed in its 10 a.m. bulletin Saturday, March 6.

No details were given on the latest fatalities.

Quezon, which is still under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) until March 31, logged 7,301 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic was declared in March last year. At least 6,908 have recovered.

At least 66 of the total 263 deaths in the province were from Lucena.

The province still has 130 active virus carriers, a remarkable drop from the highest tally of 1,119 active cases in the twice-a-day count which was recorded on Nov. 12 last year.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health has allocated a total of 1,686 doses of the Sinovac vaccines in Quezon province.

The COVID-19 vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech will be distributed to the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City (1,461); Maria L. Eleazar General Hospital in Tagkawayan town (71); and to the Claro M. Recto Memorial District Hospital in Infanta town in the northern part of the province (154).

Local authorities have yet to announce the schedule for the vaccine roll-out in the province.
