BUKO VENDOR KILLED

A 59-YEAR-OLD buko (young coconut) vendor was shot dead outside his house in barangay Panadtaran, San Fernando town, southern Cebu, last Saturday night.

No clear motive has been established yet in the killing of Teodolfo Mendez, said police.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound in the chest.

According to police, Mendez was inside their house when he was called by his 17-year-old son to check on a suspicious-looking man who was seen hiding in a dark area outside their house.

6 HURT IN NAGA ROAD MISHAPS

SIX persons were injured in two separate road accidents in barangay Inayagan, Naga City, southern Cebu.

The two accidents happened in less than an hour at dawn yesterday.

The first accident happened at 5:40 a.m. where an Isuzu 10-wheeler truck with plate number GXL-704 sideswiped a public utility jeepney (PUJ) bearing plate number GWD-208.

The two vehicles were heading south.

Police said the 10-wheeler truck driven by Mario Comedia, 52, was running at high speed and hit the jeepney while trying to overtake.

The impact injured three jeepney passengers identified as Gladys Inoc, 24; Aileene Arcales, 25; and Mar Andrew Baguio, 24. They were brought to the South General Hospital.

Police said the parties involved in the accident reached an amicable accident.

A three-vehicle smash-up occurred in the same place about 25 minutes later.

An Isuzu Wagon driven Rafael Pinat hit a multicab driven by Federicko Saballatura from behind.

Because of the impact, the multicab swerved to the opposite lane and collided with an Isuzu XUV with plate number YHO-688 .

Three persons on board the multicab were injured. They were immediately brought to the South General Hospital

MAN IN MANDAUE SHOT

A 46-YEAR-OLD man was shot in the head by a motorcycle-riding assailant in barangay Umapad, Mandaue City.

Nonito Iway remained in critical condition at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

The shooting happened at dawn yesterday while Iway was talking with friends by the road side.

Police said a man on a motorcycle wearing a full-faced helmet arrived.

The man drew a gun and while pointing it at Iway he was heard asking the victim “kaila ka nako? (do you know me?)”.

The victim replied “wala sir (no sir)” when the man pulled the trigger.

The assailant hurriedly drove off.
