3-week-old baby boy contracts coronavirus, 10-month-old baby girl recovers in Laguna

LUCENA CITY – A 3-week-old baby boy contracted the coronavirus disease in San Pablo City in Laguna province, local authorities said on night of Tuesday, March 2.

The 6 p.m. Covid-19 bulletin issued by the city’s Anti-Covid-19 Task Force showed that the infant was among the 12 new validated virus carriers in the locality that also include two girls, both aged 3.

The baby boy, who had a history of exposure to a confirmed virus carrier, is asymptomatic. He is under home quarantine in Barangay Santo Angel.  At least 10 of the new Covid-19 patients are residents of the said village.

Meanwhile, a 10-month-old baby girl from Barangay Santa Monica, also in San Pablo City, has recovered from Covid-19. The infant patient was among the eight virus carriers who had recuperated from the highly contagious illness.

The baby girl first tested positive for the virus on Feb. 17 after she had an exposure to confirmed Covid-19 patient.

As of Tuesday, San Pablo City, still under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) status until March 31, has logged 1,269 Covid-19 cases and 1,159 recoveries and 40 deaths. The city still has 70 remaining active virus carriers.

Laguna, which is also under MGCQ, has recorded 20,433 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic was declared in March last year.

At least 19,412 of them have recovered and another 525 died as of March 1. The province still has 496 active cases.
