MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies with chance of rain are expected over Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to the easterlies, the state weather bureau said Tuesday.

In its 5 a.m. live weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the easterlies — or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean — continues to persist in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

This means that Metro Manila and most parts of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to the easterlies, as well as the localized thunderstorms.

“Bahagya na naman pong lumakas ang ating northeast monsoon or amihan at ito nga po ay nakaka-apekto sa Babuyan at Batanes areas,” weather specialist Meno Mendoza said.

(Out northeast monsoon has slightly enhanced, and is currently affecting the Babuyan and Batanes areas.)

Because of the amihan, the Babuyan Group of Islands and Batanes will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

No weather disturbance is expected to enter the country within the next two to three days, Mendoza added.
