MANILA, Philippines — National Task Force against Covid-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez received a Covid-19 vaccine on Monday, making him among the first in the country who got immunized against the deadly respiratory disease.
Galvez was inoculated with the vaccine from Chinese drugmaker Sinovac Biotech.
Galvez earlier said President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered him to get immunized against Covid-19 to encourage people to do the same.
“Kahapon binigyan niya [President] ako ng utos, ‘magpabakuna ka para at at least it will make them feel na ang ating pamahalaan at lahat ng bakuna na inaangkat natin ay safe at effective,” he said in a speech at PGH where the government kicked off its Covid-19 vaccination program.
(Yesterday, the President ordered me to get vaccinated to show that the vaccines we procure are safe and effective.)
Government officials led the vaccination program on Monday at PGH in a bid to encourage healthcare workers and other Filipinos to get immunized against Covid-19.
PGH director Gerardo Legaspi was the first to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, followed by Food and Drug Administration Director-General Eric Domingo.
