Sustainable transport and mobility advocates lauded the three government agencies tasked to build a network of protected bike lanes in Metro Manila for committing to work together to complete the “long overdue” project.

On Feb. 23, Move As One Coalition met officials of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Public Works and Highways three weeks after the group pressed government to immediately build the P814-million Metro Manila Bike Lane Network under the Bayanihan to Recover As One Act.

“It was heartening to know that the three agencies value feedback and believe that team effort is needed for the successful rollout of this life-saving and economy-boosting infrastructure,” Robert Siy Jr., one of the coalition’s convener said.

Move as One Coalition said a safe bike lane network would also improve Metro Manila’s mobility environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. —Mariejo S. Ramos
