Lanao del Sur governor reaffirms support for Bangsamoro extension
MANILA, Philippines — Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Bombit Alonto Adiong Jr. on Thursday reaffirmed his support towards the extension of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA).
Governor Adiong reaffirmed his support during a meeting with Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, the governor’s brother BTA Member of Parliament (MP) Zia Alondo Adiong confirmed.
The meeting, however, was not open to the media for the observance of minimum health standards.
MP Adiong said the governor “rigorously campaigned” for the ratification of Republic Act 11054 or the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) back in 2019.
Several bills are currently pending in the Senate and the House of Representatives regarding the proposed extension of the transition period in the Bangsamoro region.
BARMM, an expanded autonomous region created upon the ratification of the BOL in 2019, is the outcome of the comprehensive peace agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) after years of negotiations.
