MANILA, Philippines — Former Cavite Gov. Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi has died, political allies and other provincial officials confirmed on Wednesday night.
Kawit Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo and House Deputy Speaker Strike Revilla posted their messages to Maliksi’s bereaved family on their Facebook accounts, asking for prayers for the late official.
“I’m giving my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and all those grieving for the loss of our former Gov. Erineo ‘Ayong’ Maliksi. The sudden loss of Gov. Ayong is saddening especially at a time like this when we are facing so many burdens,” Aguinaldo said in Filipino.
“Let’s pray for him and his family. Rest in peace, Gov. Ayong. Thank you very much for guiding our province. We will never forget you,” he added.

Revilla recalled how Maliksi was a dear friend of his late father, former Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr.
“Our whole family condoles with those left behind and the loved ones of former Governor Erineo ‘Ayong’ Maliksi,” Revilla said in Filipino.
“He was not only a respected and inspiring public servant; Gov. Ayong was also a very dear friend to our Daddy Ramon. He was not only a respected and inspiring public servant; Gov. Maliksi also served as mayor of Imus, the capital of Cavite, and member of the House of Representative, from 1998 to 2001 and from 2010 to 2013.
