COVID-19 death toll in Lucena City hits 59

LUCENA CITY –– Two more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients in Lucena City have passed away, bringing the death toll in this capital city of Quezon province to 59.

The Lucena public information office, citing the latest report from the City Inter-Agency Task Force Tuesday, Feb. 23, said two virus carriers from Barangay Ibabang Dupay and Ibabang Iyam have expired.

Of the total 59 fatalities, at least four were recorded in February and nine last month.

As of Tuesday morning, the Integrated Provincial Health Office, reported that the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in the province jumped to 248.

Lucena has the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 in the province, followed by Tayabas City with 21.

Lucena has remaining 21 active virus carriers.

Quezon, still under modified general community quarantine status, has logged 7,205 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic was declared in March last year, but at least 6,772 have recovered as of Feb. 23.

The province still has 185 active cases, its lowest daily tally.
