LUCENA CITY –– The police rescued a Chinese national, who was allegedly detained by a compatriot in Biñan City in Laguna province late evening Monday, Feb. 22.
Colonel Serafin Fortuno Petetalio II, Laguna police chief, said in a report that local Special Weapons and Tactics team members rescued the Chinese, who was not identified, in Las Villas de Manila Subdivision in Barangay San Francisco around 11:30 p.m.
The report said the Biñan City police station received information from a concerned citizen about a Chinese person, who was being illegally detained in the subdivision.
After verification, Lieutenant Colonel Giovani Martinez, Biñan police chief, immediately dispatched the SWAT team to save the victim.
The rescue team found the victim with his hands both tied. The police also arrested the suspect Zhang Chen, 25.
Quoting the victim, the police said he was tied for the past three days. The report did not provide the possible motives behind the forced detention.
The police said the victim managed to contact his friends through his mobile phone to report his detention to the authorities.
The suspect is now in the custody of the local police for further investigation.
