Who will be next Sanchez lawyer?

THE search for a new lawyer to represent the Sanchez family in the administrative case against Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has begun.

Grecylda “Gigi” Zaballero-Sanchez said she had no one in mind, but that she would definitely choose a Cebuano.

Lawyer Hilario “Junjun” Davide III, in a phone interview, said he has no plans of handling the case.

“Dili pud. Lain kaayo gyud. Sobra ra kaayo ma-politicized. We were adversaries (with Garcia) in the last election,” Davide said.

He was the gubernatorial bet of the Liberal Party in the May 2010 polls where the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. was elected.

Zaballero was given three weeks to retain a new legal counsel after she suddenly terminated the services of family lawyer Oliveros Kintanar as lead counsel in the case being heard by Department of Interior and Local Governments.

Zaballero said she will consult the two female lawyers who are assisting the case about her next choice.

Lawyers Ana Marie Militante and Myrna Limbaga who were with Kintanar will be helping in the research and other procedural matters.

Zaballero asked for the postponement of the DILG hearings on Thursday after letting go of her lead counsel over “differences in principles” in handling the case.

She did not elaborate.

Meanwhile, the vice governor’s office will soon undergo renovation as well as other portions of the legislative building.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia visited the building yesterday and said Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale will have a free hand in the design of her office.

The offices under the vice governor like the administrative department, special projects division, I.T. office, the office of the Chief of Staff and the conference room where the Provincial Board (PB) members hold their caucus will also be renovated.

Magpale replaced the late Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez who died of lung cancer in April. 28.

Sanchez’s daughter, Gigi, said she hopes to have a chance to look at her father’s office for the last time but clarified that she has no objections on the planned renovation.

Capitol consultant Tess Javier, an architect, will meet with Magpale on Monday to discuss the renovations. Carmel Loise Matus
