SAF member hurt in Northern Samar firefight with alleged NPA rebels
TACLOBAN CITY — A member of the Special Action Force (SAF) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Northern Samar was wounded during a firefight with alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) on Friday.
Patrolman Villanor Dumaguing sustained a gunshot wound on his knee as a result of the encounter.
Dumaguing, who is a member of the 12th PNP-SAF assigned at the Northern Samar provincial police office, was brought to a hospital in Calbayog City, Samar where he is recuperating.
Brigadier Gen. Ronaldo de Jesus, police regional director, commended Dumaguing for his bravery as he extended financial assistance to the wounded police officer.
During his recent visit to the region, PNP chief Director Debold Sinas said policemen are part of the campaign of the national government to end the country’s long-running insurgency problem.
Northern Samar continue to be a hot bed of insurgency problem in Eastern Visayas along with the provinces of Samar and Eastern Samar.
